New Light Community, Seoul

New Light Community, Seoul is one of only 4 residential centres in Korea available to people needing medical and psychological support following the diagnosis of HIV/AIDS. It is run by Sister Miriam Cousins.

The Centre provides a home for as long as is needed, with the aim of residents returning to live in the wider community after about 6 months. The Centre receives no government support and so is wholly reliant on donations from organisations such as BASS, private individuals and companies. It can serve around 12 people at any time, depending on the mix of genders and nursing needs.

In 2011, BASS approved a donation of KRW 10 million towards annual operating costs.

No photos are available of this project, in order to protect the identity of the residents, the carers and the location of the home.
